Spring Is Here!! A Fresh Start for Kids and Moms Too
Spring has finally arrived along with its warmth, colors, and coziness. It is like a fresh breath of air after fall and winter with their extreme weather.
Along with beautiful colors, flowers, and warmth, spring brings with us some really cool and genuine positive vibes! Today in this blog, I am going to capture the essence and all the wholesome routine and activities that you are looking for this spring season. Also, I will be sharing my insights over this spring break span not related to kids only, but emphasizing on moms too!
After a calm and cozy spring break at home (not-so-calm!). My kids are now heading back to school, ready to start the last term of the academic year.
Like many other moms, I have a very strange kind of feeling at this point. You can say mixed feelings! On one hand, I am happy about the routine again, and on the other hand, It’s bit touchy knowing that kids have grown up and about to finish their another academic year and advancing to higher grades (growing-up soon :’) )
What Our Spring Break Looked Like?
Since the spring holidays commenced after the 2nd term final exams, kids and I felt so relieved! It was like turning on a party mode. Our days became slower, and more relaxed. We didn’t rush to wake up early or pack lunch boxes in a hurry. Here’s what our spring break routine looked like:
- Late mornings: The kids enjoyed waking up at their own pace (me too). No alarms, no uniforms, and no assessments!
- Screen time with limits: They had a bit more screen time than usual, but I tried to balance it with creative play, or fun and learn engaging activities.
- Outdoor play: Since the weather was pleasant, we tried to do more outdoor activities. Even if we couldn’t go out much, playing on the open balcony was fun too!
- Family bonding: We had more time to eat together, chat, and do silly little things that usually get lost in the busy school routine (sometimes it drove me crazy as well!).
- Unplanned and Unstructured days: Whilst some days were fun-filled and productive, there were days where we were just lazy and enjoyed being in bed, watching movies and enjoying snacks!
- Mama-mia Touch: I tried to engage kids with me in the household chores too. Like I used to involve them setting the table for lunch/ dinner, doing laundry, making up their wardrobe, cleaning and dusting, and so on. We also cooked some delicious recipes together from Youtube.
We also had a great fun coloring the seasons coloring pages. You can download free coloring worksheets from here.
Back to School – The Final Term Begins
Now that the holidays are over, we are entering the last term of school. I am happy about the fact that our routines are going to be in sync again, but also the last term is usually the busy one. The term with more projects, focuses on syllabus completion, assignments, assessments and the school events. Nevertheless, we are gearing up for this one!
Here’s what we (me and my kids) are aiming for :
- Back to routine: Waking up on time, doing homework, controlled screen-time, and early bedtimes again.
- Co-operative/ Supporting learning: Helping them revise and stay organized in accordance with their tasks and homeworks without feeling overwhelmed.
- Celebrating their progress: Cherishing and acknowledging how much they have learned this year and achieved in both personal and social terms. Celebrating their growth gives them confidence and a feeling of joy, motivation!
- Being patient: Honestly – this one is a bit challenging for me but I am aiming to try to be calm and composed amidst all the projects and exams. I will try to maintain a healthy environment at home.
What Moms Should Expect in Spring (for Themselves)
We have discussed enough about the kids and resting their routine with the commencement of their last academic term. Now, we shall take a look at how as moms we can make this time of the year useful and productive.
We all have enjoyed enough break, but meanwhile spring gives us a chance to grow, and revive ourselves.
As mommies, as much as we are excited that kids are going to get back on track, it is really important that we should take care of ourselves as well and set a routine for ourselves too.
Here’s what I have summed up for myself- my things-to-do list and my vision regarding the spring season this time, and I am sure it will be helpful for other moms also. Let’s take a look:
- A chance to reset: Just like the kids, I have planned to reset my routine as well. Trying new recipes, taking care of my health, resuming fitness routine, or pursuing my interest/ hobby.
- Decluttering/ Refreshing the mind: I like writing, pouring my thoughts into my diary or writing blogs to share my experience and learning with fellow moms. I also enjoy floating my ideas in the form of free-flow painting. These things freshen up my mind, and give me a nice fresh breeze of air. Sometimes, a cup of tea or coffee along with your favourite book would do the same.
- Brighter days radiate energy too: The brighter, warm, and cozy days naturally lightens up the daily hussle and lifts up the mood in several ways. It is necessary to soak the warmth of this season for sometime during your daily routine. You’ll feel lighter!
- It is okay to feel tired: Amidst all the hussle – whether it be school runs, home chores, homeworks, or holiday mess. If I feel low at some point or being lazy, tired, or not wanting to do even a single thing, then it is completely okay. I can also get tired, I can’t expect myself to be perfect or give my 100% 24/7… I am also a human, hence, I CAN TAKE A BREAK.
Mom’s Spring Self-Care Checklist
To keep it handy, accessible, and more organized, I have made a checklist, because:
(A refreshed mom = a happier home!)
Take a 10-minute walk outside every day
Drink at least 8 glass of water everyday
Open the windows and let sunlight in (lighten up the home with natural light)
Declutter one small area of the home each week
Try a new spring recipe or any of kids fav recipe
Take 15 minutes for quiet time (reading, writing, or just sitting)
Do one thing just for you this week (even if it’s painting your nails!)
Say no to things that feel overwhelming
Try to follow at least one skin-care routine
Sleep early at least 3 nights a week
Celebrate small wins (you’re doing great!)
For quick access, get it printed and stick to your wall! or just right click and save this image file for a quick reference.
Final Thoughts: Let’s Bloom Together This Spring Season
Overall, what I have observed is that this break gave all of us a chance to slow down and reset.
Spring reminds me that the growing process takes time, whether it be plants, children, or even in us- moms!Let’s try to be calm, composed, and gentle this spring season and monitor the changes we have aimed for and evaluate the results.
So let’s cheer up our kiddos, and ourselves too. Cherish and acknowledge the little changes within ourselves, and enjoy the warmth, happiness, and growth of this lovely season.
Wishing a blooming term for the kids, and a peaceful, joyful spring for us all.
